A new design system and a full platform redesign, delivered as working code

NemTilmeld is a Danish B2B SaaS platform for organisations that run events. It handles sign-ups, payments, invoicing and GDPR for everything from small network meetings to large conferences. The team in Nørresundby is known for personal support, and they wanted an admin experience that lives up to it.

We redesigned the platform from the ground up in three phases. First the design in Figma. Then a design system in code. Then every screen built in code for NemTilmeld’s own developers to implement.

Tokens set the rules. Icons break the silence. Every theme stays consistent, and every empty state gets a moment of brand.

Starting where the redesign creates most value

The first phase was a contemporary redesign of the administration experience. We put the UX effort into navigation, structure and the primary pages, because that is where organisers spend their day.

We worked directly with NemTilmeld’s CEO, product lead and in-house UX specialist. The deepest layers of the product stayed with their own UX specialist, who knows them best. The result was a design foundation in Figma that their team could keep building on.

Built for the content it carries. Swap the image, change the ratio, fill the event. The layout holds.

A proof of concept before the full design system

Before NemTilmeld committed to a design system, we built a small proof of concept. Three components, a Storybook installation, a Git repository, and help setting it up in their development environment. We closed it with a two-hour review with their developers.

That gave the developers a chance to judge our code in their own setup before the bigger decision. They said yes.

The design system now holds 89 components documented in Storybook. Foundations for colour, typography, spacing, radius and icons sit underneath. The components are built for the stack NemTilmeld’s developers already work in, and live in a separate repository.

What you see is what ships. Flip to code and nothing changes but the syntax.

Every screen design engineered in code

In the third phase we design engineered the whole platform. 59 pages across events, billing, company settings, help centre and onboarding. Each page is assembled from the design system, works in light and dark theme, and runs in Danish and English.

In our studio, the designer who designs the screen also builds it. We call that design engineering. Where a screen had no Figma design, we took the existing implementation as the reference and rebuilt it with the new design system.

We delivered the code continuously into NemTilmeld’s GitHub. We worked closely with their CTO and senior developer throughout, and their developers review, merge and deploy. They receive finished, working screens to connect to their own system.

Review happens on the pages themselves

We built a review index into the delivery. It lists every page and every component with its status. NemTilmeld’s team opens a page, walks through it, comments from a feedback panel on the page itself and signs it off. Components are reviewed the same way in Storybook.

Everyone can see what is done, what is in review and what is still coming. A page counts as finished when NemTilmeld has approved it there.

Using every opportunity to great delight through motion and color.

We can help you, too

Most partnerships start with a Design System Assessment. Two to three weeks of audit, working components and a governance plan you can defend internally.

From there we work as a self-driven team inside your organisation and deliver design as code in your repository.
