Goal
Setting the stage for something new
Cursum is an LMS provider helping organisations deliver structured learning at scale. As they looked to expand their platform offering, they wanted to give customers more control over their end-user experience, starting with a bold, customisable new theme.
The new direction, called Luna, would act as a visual and functional outlier, introducing a more playful, expressive look and feel. Our role was to design that experience from the ground up, while laying the foundation for future themes to follow.

Making room for personality
The brief was clear: create something distinctive, while keeping it practical for teams to customise and maintain. The experience needed to stand apart from Cursum’s existing offer, but still live within the same product.
That meant balancing visual boldness with smart UX, and finding the right level of playfulness without compromising usability. We also had to consider how the theme could scale across different audiences, clients and content types.
process
Playful, but with purpose
We started by mapping the constraints: what had to stay, what could change, and where we had room to push. Using the existing platform as a baseline, we built out a new UX layer with more intuitive flows and a rethought information architecture.
The visual direction took shape through close collaboration. We explored tone, colour, motion and iconography, looking for a system that felt lively but intentional. After several iterations, we landed on a direction at the far end of the playfulness spectrum.
Once the core UI and UX were defined, we expanded the concept. Profile pages got a facelift to feel more personalised. Course experiences became more immersive, with clearer navigation and stronger narrative flow.
outcome
A new lens on learning
The outcome is a reimagined learning experience. Intuitive, immersive, and ready to support a wider range of users and content. The new structure brings clarity to the journey, while making the experience easier to navigate and customise.
Visually, it's playful without being distracting, and distinctive enough to stand out in a crowded space. More than a one-off theme, it sets the tone for what future experiences on the platform can become.
